LA FREEDOM CAUCUS SUPPORTS AG MURRILL AND WOMEN'S HEALTH

Illegal Access to Abortion Pills Threatens Women and the Rule of Law

BATON ROUGE—The Louisiana Freedom Caucus stands in resolute support of Attorney General Liz Murrill in her courageous and principled decision to pursue legal action against a New York doctor accused of illegally distributing abortion pills to women in Louisiana. We commend Attorney General Murrill for her leadership and commitment to justice. Her actions send a clear message: no one is above the law in Louisiana.

“Louisiana has enacted clear laws reflecting the will of our people to protect preborn life and regulate the practice of medicine within our borders,” said Rep. Beryl Amedée, Chairwoman of the Louisiana Freedom Caucus. “These laws are not suggestions; they are binding statutes, democratically established to ensure the safety of women and the preservation of human life and dignity.”

“This case raises profound ethical questions about the unfettered distribution of abortion pills,” said Sen. Valarie Hodges, founding member of the Louisiana Freedom Caucus. “As we have seen in Louisiana from women being hospitalized due to these drugs, there is a direct and serious risk to women’s health which our laws were designed to mitigate.”

“Attorney General Murrill’s decision to prosecute is a necessary stand against a growing trend of external actors attempting to undermine our state authority,” said Rep. Julie Emerson, founding member of the Louisiana Freedom Caucus. “Louisiana will not bow to external pressures or tolerate illegal schemes that threaten our people.”

“By holding this doctor accountable, AG Murrill is not only enforcing the law but also safeguarding the well-being of Louisiana women who deserve care, not exploitation,” said Rep. Dodie Horton, founding member of the Louisiana Freedom Caucus. “The actions of this New York doctor represent a flagrant violation of those statutes and an affront to the rights of Louisianans to govern ourselves.”

“This case is a vital defense of the sanctity of life, state sovereignty, and the integrity of our legal system,” said Rep. Kathy Edmonston, founding member of the Louisiana Freedom Caucus. “If a doctor in New York can choose to flout Louisiana’s laws, what prevents similar overreach in other areas of public health, safety, or justice?”

“Freedom does not mean breaking the law, nor does it justify endangering lives,” said Rep. Kellee Hennessy Dickerson, member of the Louisiana Freedom Caucus. “As Louisiana legislators, we have the Constitutional responsibility and duty to protect our residents from those who would treat our citizens as pawns in their ideological game.”

Governor Landry and Attorney General Murrill Release a Joint Statement Regarding Department of Justice Lawsuit

Baton Rouge, LA- The following is a joint statement from Governor Landry and Attorney General Murrill in response to Joe Biden’s Justice Department’s frivolous lawsuit

“This is Grinch Joe Biden’s parting Christmas present to the State and the people of Louisiana.

The Trump administration would likely have not allowed this case to be filed. As we saw this week in Concordia Parish, Joe Biden and Merrick Garland’s orders seem clear - jam through as many frivolous cases as possible before the clock runs out.

This is the same radical ‘justice’ department that goes after political opponents, targets Catholics, and sees concerned school parents as a threat. All the while our country was being invaded at our southern border and violent crime was on the rise across the Nation. The American people have had enough of Biden’s inept DOJ.

As we have continuously said, this problem stems from the failed criminal justice reforms pushed by the past administration. These reforms ultimately complicated the criminal justice system, giving criminals a get out of jail free card.

This past year, we have taken significant action to keep Louisianans safe and ensure those who commit the crime, also do the time.

The State of Louisiana is committed to preserving the constitutional rights of Louisiana citizens.

We look forward to fighting this, because the safety of Louisianans is our top priority.”

Gurvich: Why Liz Murrill Should Be Our Next Attorney General

Liz Murrill’s experience, hard work, and proven commitment to conservative causes are unmatched by any other candidate, and that’s why she’s the only candidate for Attorney General endorsed by the Republican Party of Louisiana. In the final days of this primary campaign, I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a bit more about this impressive woman’s lifetime of accomplishments. Where to begin?

Well, first things first: Liz Murrill is a homegrown Louisianian through and through, reared in Lafayette, where her dad practiced medicine and her mom was a school teacher, later a professor at UL. After graduating from public school, Liz attended LSU and obtained a degree in Journalism. She then briefly moved to Florida to work as a reporter for a Gannett paper, before succumbing to the allure of her native state and returning to LSU to attend law school.

While a law student, she became the editor-in-chief of the law review, and after graduation clerked for several prominent Louisiana judges before joining the law school faculty for twelve years. She also attended Pepperdine University and graduated with a Master of Laws degree.

In 2015, she served on Jeff Landry’s transition team and then joined the Office of the Attorney General. She was hired as the Civil Division Director and in 2016 was promoted to become Louisiana’s first Solicitor General. The Solicitor General is the third highest official in the office and the lawyer who actually tries most of the major cases which come through the Attorney General’s door. She’s P. O. S. T. certified (that’s police lingo for well-trained), and has a lifetime concealed carry gun permit.

Liz’s legal accomplishments as our Solicitor General merit special praise. Sure, she has handled hundreds of cases and argued before the United States Supreme Court five times (she also served a fellowship there), but what does that mean for the average folks in Louisiana?

Perhaps most importantly, she successfully blocked the Biden administration’s insane moratorium on the sale of federal land and offshore oil and gas leases, which moratorium was destroying Louisiana’s oil and gas industry. She successfully fought the retroactive application of the unanimous jury ruling, which would have released hundreds of criminals convicted of felonies. In the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, she played a key role in blocking the federal government from coercing or colluding with the big tech companies to suppress or censure free speech (that is, conservative speech). That case is pending before the United States Supreme Court right now, and we hope to soon have some happy news for you.

And did I forget to mention that along the way, Liz Murrill married and raised four wonderful boys with John Murrill, her husband of thirty years? She’s run in several marathons and served as a cubmaster for her son’s scout troop. In the aftermath of Katrina, she organized and led her church’s disaster response group. She manned a women’s crisis hotline for three years, and worked as a volunteer in a women’s shelter. Somehow, she even found the time to advise emerging democracies about how to design their legal systems. She now resides in Baton Rouge to be close to her work, where she lives with her husband and little Havanese dog, Jewell, and enjoys going after redfish in her Outback kayak.

Top-of-the-class student, journalist, attorney, marathon runner, professor, administrator, volunteer, wife and mother. Yes, Liz Murrill is all of those things, plus one more: She is an ardent PRO-LIFE, PRO-2ND AMENDMENT conservative with UNMATCHED LEGAL EXPERIENCE, who’s passionate about protecting our FREEDOMS OF SPEECH and RELIGIOUS LIBERTY. She’s been out there on the front line for years, fighting for Louisiana values and our way of life, and that’s why we need her to be our next Attorney General!

This Saturday, October 14th, please vote for Liz Murrill for Attorney General, #33 on the ballot.

The Republican Party of Louisiana Endorses Liz Murrill for Attorney General

BATON ROUGE, LA— The Republican Party of Louisiana (LAGOP) announces its endorsement of Liz Murrill for Louisiana Attorney General.

A majority of the members of the Republican State Central Committee endorsed her, which endorsement was then made official by the unanimous vote of the LAGOP's Executive Committee.

"I’m honored to have the official endorsement of the Republican Party of Louisiana. I’ve reached out to State Central Committee members across the state, listening to their concerns and sharing my message about protecting Louisiana values. With a new governor, legislature, and attorney general, we will have an opportunity to bring true conservative reform to state government. Now is the time for Republicans to come together. When we stand together, we win," she commented.

Liz Murrill has a strong record of defending and upholding our constitutional rights, while also defending our state from the federal government's overreach. In 2016 she was appointed by Attorney General Jeff Landry to serve as Louisiana's first solicitor general. Throughout her seven years in this office, she has fiercely defended our 1st and 2nd Amendment rights, led the fight to overturn Roe v. Wade, and held criminals accountable while defending law enforcement officers.

Liz Murrill has been a staunch advocate for conservative values at the state and federal level, and we look forward to her future successes as our next attorney general. Liz and her husband, John, have been married 30 years and have four children.

We congratulate Liz and urge all Republicans to support her candidacy! To learn more about Liz Murrill, visit https://liz4la.com/.

Liz Murrill says local officials acted unconstitutionally during COVID pandemic

“From the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the vast majority of leaders at the federal, state, and local levels engaged in completely irrational decision-making, while claiming complete autocratic power to justify those bad decisions,” Murrill said. “This behavior began at the federal level, with federal bureaucrats ultimately leading by example and providing justifications for similar behavior at the state and local levels with a complete disregard for the law.”
